I'm sitting waiting for a batch of images to download from iStock so I can start inspecting them. The real time counter is at 998,164 files as of the second of posting. So only 1,836 images to be approved before we hit 1,000,000 files live on the site. Incredible, simply incredible !
I remember when I joined the site back in Feb 2001 there were a few thousand images. Just after I started inspecting in 2002 we hit 30,000 files. The growth has been insane, and I'm proud to have been part of it. I can't wait to see what the next 4 years brings !
With just under 65% of inspected images approved, it means the inspection team need to process about 2824 files to hit the mark. Will we get it done today ? Time will tell....
Here's my first batch of uploads from last weekends Stiffupperlypse. Stiffupperlypse was an unofficial iStockphoto.com meet up, however with sponsorship from iStock, Canon UK and Bowens.
We had 30 photographers, 22 models, 5 organisers and a few runners. Shooting was over 2/3 days in a variety of locations. Lots of fun, hard work and sweat!
I didn't get to shoot much as I was one of the organisers, but I'm very happy with the images I've got. Who needs to shoot several thousand shots when a few hundred will suffice !
More images to come as I get them edited and uploaded.
I'm sitting typing this on a train whizzing from London's Kings Cross back home to Newcastle upon Tyne. The good folks at GNER have installed wifi onto the trains. I was about to get my credit card out and noticed they had a free promo code on their portal page... NICE !
The only thing better than wifi is FREE wifi.
Woman peeking over sunglasses A beautiful woman peeks over her sunglasses with a coy smile. She's wearing a black top and her hands are behind her back.
Second image from the last shoot I did. This is one of my favourite images from the session, although it's probably not the most 'stock worthy'.
This was the first shoot I've done with the camera hooked directly up to the laptop. I've played around with the setup before, but never used it for a real shoot.
I have to say I'm totally sold on this setup. The instant feedback you get from seeing the capture full screen with accurate histogram information is invaluable. The ability to take a test shot, check composition, lighting, shadows, give feedback to the model is second to none.
Aside from location shooting, I'll be shooting this way from now on.
Shhhhhhh ! A woman Shhhhhh's the camera. She's wearing a light striped top and sunglasses.
This was my latest upload to iStock. It was taken at my final shoot in Chicago, before leaving to come back to the UK last week.
There's a lot more to come from the series, just as soon as I have the time to edit all the images I'll be uploading them.
Adobe's Lightroom (beta 3) has finally been released for windows ! I've been waiting since the first Mac beta was announced for this to happen. Looks like I'll not be getting to much work done today..
For those who don't know about Lightroom it's Adobe's attempt to kill off Apple's Aperture. Basically a way for professional photographers to quickly look at their digital negatives, groups them, view them, make changes, and process them. If you don't know what this means, it's probably not for you.
You can see the Adobe labs page and download it from here.
I'm trying to get logged in now to download it, with such massive demand its very very slow and I keep getting time outs.... Argggggghhhh.....
.
.
..And I'm in ! There are 2 versions you can download - 6.9 MB and 113.7 MB (including sample image collection). The Mac version is updated to beta 3 as well, for those saps with macs.
A VOX account and the PC beta of Lightroom in one day... it's just to much. I'm off to play test it out.
Big thanks to Sylvan for hooking me up with an invite to Vox, What a great guy !
So now I just have to pick a blog design and get posting. I'm keen to use a personal blog off my main site sirimo.co.uk I want to keep that reasonably business like and keep my ramblings here !
